Lake County Judicial Candidates’ Debate
The candidates for judge in Department 1 of the Lake County Superior Court — Judy Conard, Michael Friel, Susan Krones and Michael Lunas — take part in a candidates’ debate on Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Lakeport, CA. Presented by Lake County News, the Lake County Bar Association, the Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Velocity Video.

It was refreshing and very informative to get a chance to see candidates for Superior Court in a Q & A. I believe this is the first time in Lake County we have had the chance to do so without having to have a Mediacom account.
The California Trial Court System is in crisis. Courthouses have already been closed, and many of the staff have been laid off.
There has been a steady rise of self-represented litigants over the past 5+years and that needs to be incorporated into factors to be considered. Access to justice has become harder for not just the low income folks, but the middle class as well.
I hope more than a few people investigate these candidates further before June 5. It's one thing to elect a Board of Supervisor. A judge affects ALL residents of the county.
One question I would of like to have seen asked is regarding their participation on the Board of Trustees for the Lake County Law Library and improving coordination between the Family Law Facilitator, Mediation, Court Clerk, the Jail and the promotion of the materials available at the Law Library.
